A US political commentator believes the raid of Donald Trump's Flordia home could backfire on the media and Democrats.
The FBI raided Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida on Monday (local time) as part of an investigation into his removal of official presidential records from the White House.
Trump responded to the raid by saying, "Nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States before".
John Jordan, a strategist for Trump's Republican party, told AM on Wednesday the raid might work out in the former President's favour.
"It's quite serious, potentially, for President Trump and it's also quite serious that this could very much blow up in the face of the Democrats and the media," Jordan told co-host Ryan Bridge.
"It all depends on what is found and what was the application for applying for this warrant."
The White House said it had no notification from the FBI the raid was going to take place and denied any politicisation of it.
