Australian TV presenters made an awkward mistake on air after they failed to recognise UK Prime Minister Liz Truss when she arrived at Westminster Hall for Queen Elizabeth's funeral.
Channel Nine reporters Peter Overton and Tracy Grimshaw referred to Truss and her husband Hugh O'Leary as "minor royals" while covering the event live overnight on Monday.
"Who is this?" Grimshaw asked.
"Hard to identify, maybe minor royals… I can't identify them," Overton replied.
"We can't spot everyone, unfortunately, they look like they could well be local dignitaries."
Luckily somebody came to their rescue, correcting the pair on their mistake.
"I'm just told that was Liz Truss, the new Prime Minister," Overton said.
Overnight on Monday (NZ time), around 2000 family members, world leaders, politicians and monarchs from other countries attended Her Majesty's funeral inside Westminster Abbey.
Truss spoke during the funeral, reading 'The Second Lesson' from the Bible, John 14:1-9.
"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you," Truss read.
Former UK Prime Ministers Boris Johnson, Theresa May, David Cameron, Gordon Brown, Tony Blair and John Major also attended the state funeral.
Truss became the Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party on September 6 after former PM Boris Johnson was forced to announce his resignation in July after months of scandals saw support for his administration drain away.
Truss met with the Queen two days before her death at Balmoral Castle in Scotland to be appointed by Her Majesty as the new Prime Minister.
A photo after the pair met was the last known photo taken of Queen Elizabeth before she died.
