A mother is fighting for her life and her one-year-old daughter is dead after a raging giraffe trampled the pair in South Africa.
The 25-year-old mother and her daughter were visiting the Kuleni Game Park near the port city of Durban on Wednesday afternoon (local time) when horror struck, news.com.au reports.
It's reported the mother and daughter were left with catastrophic injuries after the towering giant ran at them with no warning, before the pair were rushed to hospital.
While surgeons attempted to operate on the infant in a bid to her life, the one-year-old tragically died while her mother remains in critical condition.
According to news.com.au, it's thought the giraffe was trying to protect her calf as pictures showed the dead animal next to the family's crushed car.
The Kuleni Game Park's website states the park is a former cattle farm turned staycation park.
It homes a collection of luxury bush lodges in the Hluhluwe area of South Africa, "geared towards families, friends or couples".
The park says its visitors can "enjoy close encounters with animals while walking or cycling the numerous trails".
But guests are warned to remember the animals on site are wild and therefore unpredictable, with Kuleni advising they keep a safe distance at all times.
