A US mother fought to save her children as the family's pet pitbulls tragically mauled her baby and toddler to death.
The two dogs suddenly attacked the children on Wednesday afternoon (local time) at their home in Tennessee.
Kirstie Jane Bennard, the children's mother, spent more than 10 minutes trying to fight off the dogs - leaving her seriously wounded with stitches all over her face and body.
Hollace Dean Bennard, 5 months old, and Lilly Jane Bennard, 2, died at the scene.
It is unknown whether the father was home at the time of the attack.
Local police said Kirstie is now in stable condition in the hospital and the two dogs responsible have been euthanised.
"As of now, it looks like there isn't any permanent damage other than a heart that will never heal," relative Jeff Gibson told the Daily Mail.
"I don't know if there can be a healing process but hopefully we can all find a way to cope with this tragedy."
An investigation is ongoing and it's currently unclear why the pets, which the family referred to as "house lions", suddenly became aggressive.
