New South Wales in Australia has been issued 50 flood warnings by the State Emergency Service (SES) as heavy rainfall is expected to hit the region over the weekend.
On Thursday, the NSW State Emergency Service Twitter account tweeted the flood warnings.
"Fifty current FLOOD warnings across NSW - ADVICE - 36, WATCH & ACT - 14, EMERGENCY WARNING - 0."
The SES is distributing equipment to high-risk areas to help people prepare for the heavy rainfall, which has already hit Sydney.
9 News Australia reported NSW Emergency Services Minister Steph Cooke said the rain in Sydney was only going to get worse.
"Our catchments are saturated, our dams full, and rivers are already swollen so any extra rainfall, no matter how minor, is likely to exacerbate the existing circumstances."
The Bureau of Meteorology's Gabriella Woodhouse said the flooding across the Australian state will likely be "quite severe," with Saturday looking to be one of the wettest days.
"The flooding we are looking at looks as though it will be more significant than what we've been seeing over the past 12 months," Woodhouse said.
