Entire town destroyed as New South Wales grapples with more flooding

One person is dead and another is missing in the New South Wales floods, and as one town starts the clean-up, a second is starting to go under.

It stopped raining in the waterlogged region days ago, but an overflowing dam is threatening more homes and lives.

It took just an hour to destroy the entire town of Eugowra, where 700 residents live.

Almost each and every one of them lost their livelihoods in the flash flood.

"Yeah it's heartbreaking, got nothing, it's just… Where does a town this size start to rebuild," one resident said.

The surge of water came in so fast for many, it was too late to leave. Not even emergency services made it out.

One couple who waited seven hours to be rescued from a roof described the ordeal as "terrifying". More so, because their mum was stuck inside.

"She was yelling out when I was on the roof. Thankfully the front door busted open so she could get out there," resident Jake said.

On Wednesday, the search started for 85-year-old Les and 60-year-old Diane. They haven’t been seen since Monday morning.

An hour away, Forbes residents anxiously wait and watch their town go under.

Lifeboats help move everyone away from what could become the worst flood to hit the town in 70 years.

"This time to have it hit so hard so soon, a lot of people are starting to break," one resident said.

Because the last time they lived through a major flood here was two weeks ago.
