A 7.0 magnitude earthquake has struck near the Solomon Islands on Tuesday.
The quake hit at about 3:03pm southwest of the capital Honiara and was recorded at a depth of 15 kilometres.
There is the potential of dangerous tsunami waves for some of the coasts within 300 kilometres of the quake's epicentre.
USGS Earthquakes reports the quake struck 17 kilometres south-west of Malango.
It's reported a spokesperson for the Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare said no major damage has been caused to buildings in Honiara.
A Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) spokesperson told Newshub there are 40 Kiwis registered with SafeTravel as being in the Solomon Islands.
Aotearoa's National Emergency Management Agency told Newshub there is no tsunami risk to New Zealand.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre says there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii.
