At least three have died and multiple people are injured after an enormous pile-up involving 50 vehicles on a highway in Ohio, United States.
On Friday afternoon (local time), emergency officials responded to several crashes on the Ohio Turnpike Highway, ABC13 reported.
One person shared photos of the multiple-vehicle crash on Twitter along with the caption: "Maybe the worst accident/car pileup I've ever seen on the Ohio Turnpike."
The photos show a large black truck on top of several cars and people in high-viz jackets, trying to help in the blustery and snowy conditions.
Ohio State Highway Patrol (OHSP) also tweeted photos of the crash site and tweeted: "Troopers on scene confirm three fatalities. Crews continue to clear vehicles from the roadway. White-out conditions persist. Travel is not recommended."
NBC News reported buses were being used to take people away from the site to a facility, to keep out of the cold.
A spokesperson for OSHP told ABC13 two people received non-life-threatening injuries in a five-car crash at around 11:45am (local time), which led to the gigantic pile-up at around 12:30pm (local time).
"There are a lot of troopers and first responders out there working through this," the spokesperson told ABC13.
ABC13 also reported visibility could have been a factor in the crash because of the strong winds and freezing temperatures.
Before the large pile-up, OSHP warned people by tweeting: "Blowing snow can reduce visibility and if you MUST travel take it SLOW! Give our plow drivers room as they work to clear the roadways and proceed with caution when you see flashing lights."
The Turnpike Highway has been closed off and motorists have been advised to find an alternative route.
