A 65-year-old Australian man has been hospitalised after a crocodile bit his feet while he was asleep on a beach.
The man was sleeping on Queensland's Newell Beach, known for its crocodiles, on Tuesday when he was bitten.
In a statement to 7News, a spokesperson for Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service confirmed the man was being treated for injuries caused by the crocodile and was discharged from Mossman Hospital overnight on Wednesday.
It's reported the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service plans to investigate the incident, and wildlife officers were scoping out the area to confirm if the crocodile is in the area.
While the man hasn't reported his crocodile encounter to the Department of Environment and Science (DES), it reminded the public to report all crocodile sightings.
All Australians are urged to practice being "crocwise" at the popular beach and to expect crocodiles in all water even if there are no warning signs.
