A former FBI boss says there is only a small chance ex-President Donald Trump will get re-elected, believing most of the US sees who he really is.
Last week, Trump pleaded not guilty to 37 charges related to the alleged mishandling of classified documents.
It is the latest in the ex-President's list of legal woes. Trump was also separately charged earlier this year related to alleged hush-money payments to former adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016.
Former FBI director James Comey, who was fired by Trump back in 2017, said his chances of getting re-elected are "very small".
"Not zero, which is depressing but that doesn't mean that it's any less embarrassing for our country to have a former President in the dock in the way he is," Comey told AM co-host Ryan Bridge.
Recent polls have found Trump's popularity rose among Americans despite him becoming the first President to face criminal charges, let alone twice.
However, Comey said he doesn't believe Trump's popularity is going up among the broader US population.
"I think it binds his base which is a small slice of our country to him more tightly because it's too painful for those people to escape the fraud," he said. "I actually feel empathy for a lot of those people.
"It's so hard for people to escape the demigod because it requires them to admit something about themselves that's very painful. I was a fool, I shouldn't have been a part of this, I get why it's so hard to get away.
"The good news is, most of America sees him for what he is."
