A high-profile Australian drug kingpin has been shot dead in a brazen daylight ambush near a busy shopping district in Sydney.
New South Wales (NSW) Police said officers were called to Bondi Junction at around 8:30am Tuesday after reports a man had been shot while sitting in a parked vehicle.
NSW Police believe a burnt-out Porche located nearby at roughly the same time is linked to the shooting.
Detectives are also investigating whether a second burnt-out vehicle found just under 7km away is linked to the shooting.
Three crime scenes have been established, which will be forensically examined by specialist police.
The man killed has been identified by local media as high-profile cocaine dealer Alen Moradian who had links to the Comanchero bikies gang. Police have not confirmed the identity of the victim but said he is believed to be in his 40s.
Once dubbed the 'Tony Soprano' of the Australian cocaine importation trade, Moradian is understood to have been a member of the cartel called the Commission, the Daily Mail reported.
He was sentenced to at least six years in prison in 2011 for importing and supplying cocaine
No arrests have yet been made in the Tuesday morning shooting.
