Fire investigations continue at the scene of a deadly Queensland house fire that claimed the lives of five young boys and their father.
According to 9News, the father, 34-year-old Wayne Godinet, his two four-year-old twins and three sons aged 11, 10 and three were unaccounted for following the fire.
Their mother, 28-year-old Samantha Stephenson escaped the blaze and remains in hospital.
Police confirmed to 9News the bodies of the six family members had been found at the Russell Island property.
According to 9News, nine people required urgent treatment following the blaze.
A friend of the family, Peter MacLoughlin spoke with 9News and expressed his devastation.
He was at the scene before the firefighters arrived.
"(The) mother came out very distressed saying children were inside as was her partner," Macloughlin said.
"There was nothing I could do."
The first firefighters to arrive at the scene were rural crews stationed on the Island.
Queensland Police Service Superintendent Mat Kelly described the scene to 9News as confronting.
"The house has been burnt to the ground," Kelly said.
"They (firefighters) were greeted with a distressed lady and a house fully alight."
Queensland Fire and Emergency Commissioner Greg Leach told 9News it could take days to work out the cause of the fire.
"The building is extensively damaged, it could take quite some time."
