An orangutan at an Australian zoo shocked onlookers after it brutally 'evicted' a possum from its enclosure.
In a viral video, originally posted to Reddit, horrified onlookers can be heard screaming as the great ape picks up a possum it found in its treehouse and launches it across the zoo.
The possum can be seen hurtling across the air before it disappears from view.
The orangutan then emerges from its treehouse and appears to be looking for where the possum landed.
"Bloody hell, that was like an Olympics-level discus throw," one person commented on the video.
"This is horrifying and I can't stop laughing," another person commented.
Fortunately, a spokesperson for Perth Zoo told 7News possums are a "robust species" and the evicted animal survived the fall.
"The orangutan habitat is an outside environment and possums, who also live at height, just like the orangutans, have been known to inhabit the above-ground territories," the spokesperson told the outlet.
"Whilst every effort is made to prevent them from entering, the sheer height provides some challenges and sometimes the orangutans evict the odd possum themselves."
