An Australian woman was living with her dead brother's corpse for several years.
The woman's house in Geelong, Victoria, was described by neighbours as a rat-infested "house of horrors".
The tenant's brother was missing for some time and when police arrested her on an unrelated matter recently, they discovered his remains in the property.
Along with his skeleton, officers found rubbish piled from floor-to-ceiling, rats, dead possums and human faeces.
It's believed the woman could have been living with the corpse for up to five years.
Neighbours say complaints about the hoarder had gone unactioned.
Neighbor Nicole Stratton spoke with the Geelong Advertiser and said the build-up of "utter filth" may have been masking the smell of the rotting corpse.
"There was always a smell but we just thought it was the piles of rubbish," Stratton said.
"The blinds were always down and you could see the mould on the back of them."
Geelong Advertiser spoke with another resident who said the lack of action was "crazy".
"I can safely say there was no routine inspection or welfare check on that individual for at least a year and possibly more," he said.
The cause of the man's death has not been made public and investigations continue.
The woman who lived alongside the body hasn't been charged over his death.
