A man has been charged over the alleged hit-and-run that killed Kiwi lawyer Mitch East in Sydney.
East had just been dropped off by an Uber driver early on Sunday morning when he was hit, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Neighbours told 9 News they heard a loud bang or thud followed by a car alarm about the same time the incident was reported.
Police officers and paramedics performed CPR but were unable to revive East.
Following his death at the scene, police sought the driver of a white Subaru Outback caught on CCTV at the time of the crash.
Australian media now report a 63-year-old man has been arrested by police after he handed himself into Granville Police Station on Friday morning.
It's reported he has been charged with multiple offences, including failing to stop and assist after the crash, dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death and using a mobile phone when not permitted.
He has been denied bail and is due to appear in court on Saturday.
