A young girl has been allegedly stabbed to death by her teenage sister in New South Wales.
Emergency services were called to a house in Boolaroo in Lake Macquarie, north of Sydney, on Monday afternoon after reports of a stabbing.
First responders treated a 10-year-old girl with multiple stab wounds at the scene, but she could not be revived and was pronounced dead.
Police said a 17-year-old was arrested at the home and is helping with the investigation. It's reported the suspect is the victim's older sister.
"Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District arrested a 17-year-old girl at the home, and she was taken to Belmont Police Station and is currently assisting with inquiries," police said in a statement.
"Both girls are believed to be known to one another. A crime scene has been established as investigations continue. No further information is available at this stage."
