The grieving family of the Sydney mother stabbed to death in the Sydney mall rampage have released a heartbreaking statement on Sunday.
Thirty-eight-year-old Ashlee Good desperately fought to save her nine-month-old daughter after they were both attacked by Joel Cauchi in Bondi Junction Westfield.
"The mum came over with the baby and threw it at me, and I was just holding the baby," one witness told 9News.
"I just helped out, just holding the baby and trying to compress the baby, and same with the mother, trying to compress the blood from stopping and calling the ambulance and police."
Good was rushed to St Vincent's Hospital with critical injuries, but died soon after her arrival.
Now her grieving family have released a statement saying they are struggling to come to terms with what's happened.
"Today we are reeling from the terrible loss of Ashlee, a beautiful mother, daughter, sister, partner, friend, all round, outstanding human, and so much more,'' the family said.
"We appreciate the well wishes and thoughts of members of the Australian public who have expressed an outpouring of love for Ashlee and our baby girl."
In the statement, they gave an update on the baby's condition after the infant was also stabbed in the attack.
"We can report that after hours of surgery yesterday. Our baby is doing well. We are so grateful for the expert care and attention of the medical team at Sydney Children's Hospital."
They also offered their thanks to all those who took care of Good's baby daughter.
"We would also like to thank the New South Wales Police for their kindness and diligence in this tragedy and emergency services for getting our baby the care she needed as quickly as possible.
"To the two men who held and cared for our baby when Ashlee could not - words cannot express our gratitude."
