A Sydney pilot is being labelled a hero after perfectly landing his plane without any power.
Jake Swanepoel struck trouble while out flying his Cessna 210 and its engine stopped working.
The veteran pilot made a Mayday call to alert the control tower he needed to make an emergency landing.
A news helicopter filmed the light plane making its dramatic descent into Bankstown Airport.
Gliding in to land it was flying so low it clipped a tree and narrowly missed the roof of a hangar.
With a bit of luck and skill the veteran pilot landed the small plane on its belly, without wheels.
It skidded across the tarmac before coming to a halt after 150m.
Miraculously Swanepoel and his partner, Karin, weren't injured in the crash landing.
"It was scary - and nerve-wracking," Karin told reporters.
"It was very close we didn't think we were going to make this landing strip here. You were thinking about all these homes you could potentially if you didn't make the runway."
Police, paramedics and firefighters were on standby, but weren't needed.
"Fortunately, he executed a textbook crash-landing, and no person was harmed," Fire and Rescue Station Commander Chris Andrews said.
