A Kiwi tourist has reportedly been fatally run over while shopping at a mall in California.
The unnamed 69-year-old woman was reportedly outside a store at Newport Beach's Fashion Island Mall when she and her husband were robbed on Tuesday (local time).
According to CBS News, the alleged offenders then got into a car and the woman - said to be a tourist from New Zealand - was run over.
Gun shots were fired also as they fled the scene in the vehicle, police told local media.
The woman died at the scene, according to the Newport Beach Fire Department. Sgt Steven Oberon told the LA Times her husband was not believed to be injured.
CBS reported three alleged offenders were subsequently arrested after a pursuit down a nearby motorway.
Newport Beach Mayor Will O'Neill said he was "furious" about the tragedy.
"I'm horrified," he said, as reported by CBS. "I'm mourning the loss of someone who died inside of our city because of crime.
"We have to do better as a society because we cannot tolerate this."
