A Christchurch Women's Prison inmate celebrated her graduation from a parenting course by having sex with her partner in a prison toilet.
The Press newspaper said the couple were caught about 2pm on April 14.
"On entering the toilet area of education I did find prisoner xxxx and visitor in a toilet cubicle. They appeared to be having sexual connection," a report leaked to the newspaper said.
The visitor was "read his rights" and escorted from the prison, along with the pair's baby.
Prison manager Wayne McKnight confirmed the Corrections Department was investigating the incident.
"It should be noted that conjugal visits are prohibited at all of our facilities and the department is investigating how this particular incident occurred," he said.
The prisoner had been charged with misconduct and her visitor restricted from contact visits, Mr McKnight said.
