Prime Minister John Key says he couldn't face putting money on Drunken Sailor to win the Melbourne Cup, after last night's TV debate with Labour leader Phil Goff.
Mr Key called Mr Goff a 'drunken sailor' several times during the debate and says he's just put $10 on the horse to come in second in today's big race (place bet).
Mr Key says he's already got plans for his winnings. Drunken Sailor was paying $21.60 a win and $6.20 a place at the TAB at 2.15pm today.
He also put $10 on Niwot, saying he's done his research and it looked like a good bet. The Melbourne Cup starts at 5pm New Zealand time.
