Former Yellow Wiggle Emma Watkins says she was "always afraid to sing in front of people" after she was unmasked on the latest episode of the Australian version of The Masked Singer.
Watkins had been hiding under the mask of the Zombie on the show, but was voted off the show, despite wowing the crowds with an understated performance of Radiohead's emo anthem 'Creep'.
After stunning the audience with the reveal, Watkins further shocked those watching and in the studio by saying she owed "everything" to Zombie.
"I grew up as a dancer, so I really only learnt to sing through the Wiggles... And so I was always very afraid to sing in front of people, so the idea of this show was absolutely perfect.
"I'm actually very grateful to Zombie and I owe her everything," she said.
Watkins also said her ex-husband and current purple Wiggle Lachy Gillespie was the first person to call her after the unmasking on the show.
Speaking to 2Day FM’s Hughesy, Ed and Erin, Watkins said Gillespie couldn't believe it and was shocked that she'd been part of the show.
"How? Why? I've missed all this, how did this happen?" Gillespie reportedly said.
Emma became the first female member of the iconic children's group The Wiggles in 2010.
In October 2021, she quit the band after 11 years.
She said the break from touring with the group during the COVID-19 pandemic last year made her reassess her priorities in life and focus on her education.
