Yellowjackets star Melanie Lynskey is to appear in the TV adaptation of the video game The Last of Us.
The first full trailer was released by HBO Max on Monday (local time) showing more of the highly anticipated series, which will star The Mandalorian's Pedro Pascal as Joel and Game of Thrones' Bella Ramsey as Ellie.
The post-apocalyptic drama is set two decades after the implosion of society and sees survivor Joel tasked with smuggling teenage Ellie out of a quarantine zone and across the US.
Lynskey will be playing Kathleen, the ruthless leader of a revolutionary movement in Kansas City.
The show is set to debut in 2023.
Lynskey tweeted the new trailer with the word "Surprise", with her casting in the series unknown until now.
"Also WOW how beautiful and scary does this show look?" she added.
When asked by one of her followers why she was involved, she replied she was a fan of Craig Mazin, the co-creator. Mazin had previously been involved with the mini-series Chernobyl, about the Russian nuclear power plant meltdown.
The Last of Us game director and Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann told Lynskey: "OMG! You crushed your episodes! Can't wait for people to see your character!"
The news comes as Lynskey's star continues to ascend - she was nominated for her first Emmy for her role in Yellowjackets, but lost out to Zendaya, who won for Euphoria.
