RWC2021: Benee reveals planning for Eden Park show underway, teases new music

Benee says planning is already underway for her Eden Park Rugby World Cup show.

The 'Supalonely' singer will be the final headline act of the tournament when she performs during the finals at Eden Park on November 12.

Also playing the RWC2021 will be Rita Ora, who will be opening the event on October 8, and Shapeshifter who will perform at the semi-finals on Saturday November 5.

The concerts have been described by the Rugby World Cup organisers as "Aotearoa's very own unforgettable Super Bowl moment."

Speaking to AM from Los Angeles where she's on her US tour, the 'Glitter' singer said she was nervous, but excited.

"I've never done anything like this before. We're just gonna play a few songs, have a bit of fun. It's going to be a crazy party.

"The women's rugby? That's kind of like more badass to me in a way. Let's go girls! It's close to my house as well, Eden Park - it just feels so right."

When asked by Ryan Bridge what she would do for her Superbowl moment, Benee paused.

"Maybe I should streak or something?" she said before laughing it off.

"We're going to be doing a bunch of rehearsals for the show in New Zealand, which will be exciting."

The 'Soaked' singer also let slip new music was on the way too, and said "new music was brewing" which would hopefully be released by the end of the year.

However, she said there were no plans to tour Aotearoa, telling the show hosts it was  "in discussion."

Benee also said she didn't feel the need to curb any of her political views for the US audiences she was playing for.

"I did talk about the abortion laws in Texas, that just happened when we just started the US tour.

"I say whatever I want when I'm performing, I don't say anything offensive, but I do like to speak my opinion," she said.
