Just four months after Johnny Depp sensationally won his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, a TV movie is about to be released.
Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial stars Mark Hapka and Megan Davis as the former husband and wife, with Hapka channeling the slicked-back ponytail and goatee of Depp.
In the trailer, a reporter is shown telling a TV audience there'd already been the support for Depp as the trial began.
"It's day one of the Depp vs Heard defamation trial; though fans are showing support for both sides, there's clearly a favourite here," she says.
The movie will also feature an actor playing Depp's lawyer Camilla Vasquez and will incorporate the build-up to the trial amid Depp and Heard's tumultuous relationship.
It's to release in the US on September 30. There's no word yet on a New Zealand broadcast.
The infamous six-week trial began a little over three years after Depp filed his US$50 million defamation lawsuit against Heard in March, 2019.
It came after the publication of a Washington Post op-ed she wrote which detailed how she was the victim of domestic violence.
The jury found that Heard defamed Depp but it also held Depp liable for a defamatory statement made about Heard by his lawyer.
Less than two years earlier, Depp lost a similar case in the UK. In that case, tabloid The Sun was found to have made a "substantially true" statement in calling Depp a "wife-beater", with the court finding 12 of 14 alleged incidents of domestic violence against Heard had occurred.
