Hollywood actor Jack Black has sent a message of support to students at Palmerston North Intermediate Normal School ahead of their stage production of his 2003 film School of Rock.
He had recorded a short 45-second video message as the show got underway this week.
It is understood students were shown the video before they took to the stage.
In the original film, Black played Dewey Finn, who pretended to be a teacher at a prestigious school. He subsequently managed to harness the musical talent of the students and form a successful band.
Palmerston North Intermediate Normal School shared Black's message on their Facebook page.
In it, a bearded and bespectacled Black told students they "rocked the block".
"Palmerston North Intermediate Normal, it's me Jack Black."
"I heard you were doing School of Rock. Are you doing School of Rock hoohoo - that rules.
"Hey you rule the school and you rock the block. I just wanted to wish you luck, I wanted to send you good vibes and rock'n'roll spirit.
"Go get it and don't forget - there's no way you can stop the school of rock," he sang.
"Rock n roll, much love, peace out."
In its social media post, the school said "No words! Thanks Jack Black our students are doing you proud."
The production started on Tuesday and finishes Friday.
