Ice Cube has confirmed reports he turned down a US$9 million (NZ$14.5 million) role in a movie last year because he didn't want to get a COVID-19 vaccine.
The hip-hop legend explained on podcast 'Million Dollaz Worth of Game' that there was pressure from the film's producers for all cast members to be vaccinated.
"I turned down a movie because I didn't want to get the motherf**king jab," Ice Cube said on the podcast.
"I turned down $9 million. I didn't want get the jab. F**k that jab. F**k y'all for trying to make me get it. I don't know how Hollywood feels about me right now."
However, he later clarified he was not actually offered the role.
"Those motherf**kers didn't give it to me because I wouldn't get the shot.
"I didn't turn it down. They just wouldn't give it to me. The COVID-19 shot, the jab… I didn't need it. I didn't catch that shit at all.
"Nothing. F**k them. I didn't need that shit," Cube said.
It's believed the Straight Outta Compton actor is referring to comedy Oh Hell No, but he didn't refer to it by name.
The film, which would have been shot in Hawaii, was to co-star Jack Black. The Hollywood Reporter said in October 2021 when the news emerged of Ice Cube dropping out due to his vaccine stance that he had previously been promoting mask-wearing during the pandemic.
On August 21, Bacone College in Oklahoma reportedly thanked the 'No Vaseline' rapper and others for a donation of 2000 face masks to use as PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
Ice Cube also sold branded T-shirts in April 2020 which featured him in a mask, with proceeds from the sales going to benefit frontline health workers.
