Rapper Kanye West will run for US president in 2024 after failing in the 2020 election, he has announced.

In a video posted by Twitter account Patriot Takes, West is directly asked if he will run for president in 2024.

"Yes," he replies.

At the start of the video, West introduces "Milo, who is working on the campaign".

TheWrap website reports 'Milo' is Milo Yiannopoulos, a disgraced far-right commentator who recently served as an intern for U.S. representative for Georgia, Marjorie Taylor Greene.

"Is that an announcement?" West is asked, and he laughs.

"I guess it is."

West is then seen entering a warehouse, where he's asked again: "So, you are running?"

"Yes," he says.

"That's awesome Kanye," someone in the video replies.

"It's just we're moving towards the future," West says as the video ends.

The origins of the video and who is asking West questions is unknown.

In November 2020, West pulled the plug on his previous bid for the White House, conceding he'd voted for himself but had lost to Joe Biden, who ultimately won the election from Donald Trump.

He'd intimated at the time he would return and try again by posting a picture of himself in front of an electoral map saying: "WELP KANYE 2024."

On November 16, twice impeached former president Donald Trump announced he would also be running again in the 2024 contest.

Trump, seeking a potential rematch with Biden, made his announcement at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida a week after midterm elections in which Republicans failed to win as many seats in Congress as they had hoped.

"In order to make America great again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States," Trump said to a cheering phone-waving crowd of donors and longtime supporters.
