PlayStation has announced its new Virtual Reality headset and controllers will launch in New Zealand on February 22, 2023.
The package will include the PS VR2 headset, PS VR2 Sense controllers and stereo headphones, and will set gamers back a whopping NZ$999.95.
That price is higher than a PlayStation 5 console, which cost NZ$819 at launch in November 2020.
The original PlayStation VR set was released in October 2016 and cost $629.99 at launch.
The cost is however substantially lower than Facebook's recently announced Meta Quest Pro, which launched recently for NZ$2700; while Apple's long-rumoured VR headset could reportedly cost more than NZ$5000.
A PlayStation VR2 Sense controller charging station, designed specifically for the PS VR2 Sense controller, will also launch the same day in 2023. That will sell for $89.95 and will allow players to charge the PS VR2 Sense controller through a simple click-in design, without having to connect to a PS5 console and occupy one of the console's USB ports.
PlayStation says the headset has "been created with comfort in mind, in a slightly slimmer and lighter design compared to the previous headset".
"It also includes an integrated vent for extra air flow, and a lens adjustment dial for a more customised feel," the Sony company said.
Key features of PlayStation VR2 Sense Technology include headset feedback, eye tracking, 3D audio, and the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback from the PS VR2 Sense controllers.
Over a dozen games have so far been announced for the PS VR2 including Horizon Call of the Mountain of the Horizon Zero Dawn series, Resident Evil Village and Jurassic World Aftermath Collection.
PS VR2 pre-orders open on November 15.
