Basic Instinct actor Sharon Stone says she has a "large fibroid tumour" which was discovered after a misdiagnosis.

She shared the news on her social media saying she "just had another misdiagnosis and incorrect procedure".

"W[ith] worsening pain went for a second opinion: I have a large fibroid tumour that must come out," she said.

"Ladies in particular: Don't get blown off. Get a second opinion. It can save your life. I'll be down for 4-6 weeks for full recovery. Thx for your care. It's all good."

A fibroid tumour, or uterine fibroid, is a noncancerous growth in the uterus.

Stone has been an advocate for women's health and has had various health struggles of her own.

In September 2001, the Casino actor had a stroke.

"The room was so silent," she said of the incident when on a talk show in 2021.

"When the room is so silent and no one's running around trying to fix you, that's when you realise how near death is and how serious everything is."

She also told Variety magazine in 2019 it took her and her career about seven years to recover.

"I had to remortgage my house. I lost everything I had.

"I lost my place in the business. I was like the hottest movie star, you know?" she told Variety.

"It was like Miss Princess Diana and I were so famous, and she died and I had a stroke. And we were forgotten."
