British broadcaster the BBC has been forced to apologise after its live coverage of the FA Cup football match between Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers was interrupted by sexual moaning noises.
As former England footballer and presenter Gary Lineker presented the replay of the match, the X-rated audio could be heard as he threw to former footballer Alan Shearer, who was at the game at Molineux Stadium.
The clip can be viewed in the embedded video below - of course, it may not be suitable for people of all ages.
"Somebody's sending something on someone's phone, I think. I don't know whether you heard it at home," Lineker said during the broadcast.
He later posted online a photo of a mobile phone which had been found "taped to the back of the set" and had apparently emitted the pornographic audio.
Lineker remarked: "As sabotage goes, it was quite amusing."
The BBC subsequently announced an investigation was underway into how the incident had happened.
"We apologise to any viewers offended during the live coverage of the football this evening," a statement from the BBC said.
Soon after the stunt went viral, YouTube prankster Daniel Jarvis claimed he was responsible, uploading a video that showed him making a phonecall from Molineux that apparently triggered the audio.
It appears the BBC has been caught out by a trend which has been going on internationally for around seven years. The prank originated in Brazil in the second half of the 2010s, with the first cases of the porn noises being heard in mid-2016.
It was nominated for Meme of the Year in 2018 as part of the MTV Millennial Awards in Brazil.
