Cyclone Gabrielle relief concert in Christchurch sells out in 'matter of hours'

Organisers of the Cyclone Gabrielle relief concert set to take place in Christchurch on Friday are "over the moon" it sold out within hours of tickets going on sale.

The show will be hosted by Newshub's Mike McRoberts and take place at the Christchurch Town Hall with all profits donated to The Red Cross New Zealand Disaster Fund.

Neil Finn, Lorde, L.A.B., Supergroove, Marlon Williams, Tiki Taane, Lee Mvtthews, PRINS, 1 Drop Nation, Emma Dilemma and Big Sima are all on the lineup.

Electric Avenue's director Callam Mitchell said they'd been overwhelmed by the demand for tickets, which went on sale on Tuesday afternoon.

"We're over the moon with the response, and a massive heartfelt thanks goes out to everyone who is supporting this show. This is going to be a very special night," he said.

Crowded House star Neil Finn previously said it was "natural and fitting" the concert happened.

"Last week we watched and took shelter as a devastating cyclone wreaked havoc throughout New Zealand. It seems natural and fitting that we gather together now, play music and raise money for the people whose lives and livelihoods have been upended," he said.

"I am grateful to have this opportunity to lend a hand . Already many of New Zealand's finest musicians have put their hands up too.

"A night of diverse and magical music is assured at the Christchurch Town Hall on Friday. It's our show of solidarity and support."

Those who cannot make the show are able to donate to The Red Cross New Zealand Disaster Fund at redcross.org.nz
