In December last year, The Hui Presenter Mihingarangi Forbes and Producer Annabelle Lee-Mather farewelled The Hui team leaving the show after seven years.
Wilcox began his broadcasting career in 2004 with Māori Television and has since worked as chief operating officer for Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu.
"It's a privilege to be joining this team that has been a leading light in current affairs journalism, and it's an honour to help care for the mauri of the programme," Wilcox said.
He also paid tribute to Forbes and Lee Mather, saying: "I want to acknowledge the hard work of Annabelle Lee Mather and Mihingarangi Forbes leading this team for the last seven seasons and establishing an extremely successful and credible show."
Wilcox also said the focus of The Hui would not change over the coming months.
"I'm excited to work with the team to continue to tell the stories that matter, to shed light where there is darkness, to champion our people, and slip in as many Hurricanes stories as possible."
