Sir Rod Stewart has cut short an interview with The Project's Jeremy Corbett because he had to have his dinner.
Stewart was discussing his life with the show ahead of his return to Aotearoa after COVID-19 had previously delayed the planned tour with Cyndi Lauper. He'll be playing shows in Dunedin, Napier and Auckland.
However, while he spoke at length to Corbett about his love of model trains and how hotels gave him extra rooms to work on projects while he was touring, he couldn't escape the call of the dinner table.
"Listen mate, I've gotta go, my dinner's ready" he said to Corbett's surprise.
There was just time for Corbett to ask what he was having for dinner. Stewart asked offscreen and came back with the response "Liver."
"Yuck" said Corbett, reducing Stewart to howls of laughter before he ended the chat.
Stewart had been due to play in Dunedin and Hawke's Bay in April 2022 but in January last year, he announced that due to COVID-19 border restrictions he had been forced to cancel.
"My dear friends, once again I feel we've all been cheated by this evil disease, so it is with great regret that I announce my shows for 2022 have had to be cancelled.
"My thoughts are with all your families at this difficult time as we come out of the joyous and hopefully safe holiday season and I look forward to returning to New Zealand as soon as the health situation permits."
The veteran rocker's added a new date at Auckland's Spark Arena on April 9.
He still plans to play the Napier Mission Winery Estate concert with organisers saying last month the gig would go ahead after the devastation of Cyclone Gabrielle.
"Live Nation will continue to monitor the recovery efforts in Hawke’s Bay and we are working towards the Rod Stewart with Cyndi Lauper date at Mission Estate on Saturday, April 8 proceeding as scheduled."
The promoters pledged money from the new tour date will go to the disaster relief fund.
