The second trailer for director Greta Gerwig's Barbie has arrived but many viewers are scratching their heads after it revealed nothing about the plot of the upcoming film.
Margot Robbie stars as the titular doll, with Ryan Gosling playing Ken. The latest trailer features a multitude of Barbies and Kens, all played by various different actors.
Will Ferrell also appears in the clip, but his role is currently unclear.
However, during the 90 second teaser, Barbie can be seen greeting a clutch of different Barbies, all played by different actors - as well as Gosling's Ken, who seems to have a rivalry with Marvel star Simu Liu's other Ken, who appears in the trailer.
It appears to hint at Barbie leaving Barbie Land where she lives and the film's official synopsis seems to indicate that Barbie has a "full-on existential crisis".
However, online comments say they wished the trailer had more indication of what Frances Ha director Gerwig has planned for the Mattel toy icon, while others defended the mystery.
"People hating on Barbie, you don't understand true cinema and you never will. The trailer not giving away the plot is the whole point," one said.
"The Barbie movie trailer isn’t giving for me like I wanted it to," another said.
"The new Barbie trailers are so fun I can't pick up any plot at all which makes me wanna watch it more," one commented.
"Bruh, I'm old enough to remember when trailers told you what the movie was gonna be about, or at least gave a slight friggin hint!" another commented.
The film also stars America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, Ariana Greenblatt, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, Ana Cruz Kayne, Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, Scott Evans, Jamie Demetriou, Connor Swindells, Sharon Rooney, Nicola Coughlan, Ritu Arya, Dua Lipa and Helen Mirren.
It is due to release in New Zealand on July 20, 2023.
