Former Newshub European correspondent Lloyd Burr is returning to the company as a political reporter.
Burr, who left Newshub to join failed talkback station Today FM, will rejoin Newshub on June 5.
He will be based in the political gallery in Wellington alongside Jenna Lynch ahead of the upcoming election.
Previously, Burr had worked in Wellington as a political reporter for seven years.
After leaving his European correspondent job, he went on to join MediaWorks and Today FM where he used to present Lloyd Burr live on Today FM between 4 and 7pm.
On March 31, the talkback station was abruptly shut down by the MediaWorks board after an hours-long consultation period.
Burr said he was excited to be returning.
"I'm stoked to be heading back to my old stomping ground and rejoining the Newshub family.
"Elections are the pinnacle of political journalism and I can't wait to hit the campaign trail to cover the twists and turns and trials and tribulations that'll undoubtedly unfold," Burr said.
He also referenced the job loss at Today FM, saying things had been difficult after the closure of the station.
"It's been a tough few months for me and I'd like to thank the Newshub team for welcoming me back with open arms."
