Fans of Sex and the City have reacted with joy to the news that Kim Cattrall's man-eating Samantha Jones is to make a brief reappearance in the spinoff sequel series, And Just Like That....
The end of the first season saw Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw reach out to her former friend Samantha via text and plan to meet up to reconcile in the light of the death of Carrie's husband Big, portrayed by the disgraced actor Chris Noth.
On Thursday morning, Variety reported Cattrall had shot her dialogue on March 22 in New York City - and had no interaction with any of the other stars, whom she worked with on the hit series between 1998 and 2004, as well as two feature films in 2008 and 2010.
Cattrall publicly announced in 2016 that she was done playing the character after plans fell through for a Sex and the City 3, remarking that a third film wasn't warranted.
Parker and Cattrall's relationship has also come under scrutiny over recent years amid rumours of a major rift, including Cattrall making a public dig against Parker on social media.
While the reappearance of Samantha Jones will amount to nothing more than a cameo, it's not stopped fans online rejoicing at the news the icon will be back.
"I am SHOOK!" one commented on Twitter.
"Hell has frozen over," another said, referencing the rift between the stars and the show.
"The only episode I'll watch," another said.
"Samantha and Carrie reuniting would be iconic," one said, holding out hope the early reports were wrong.
The second series of And Just Like That... will premiere in New Zealand on Neon in June, around the time episodes air in the US.
It is believed the scene involving Kim Cattrall will air sometime in August both here and in the US.
