Barbie has had another phenomenal box office haul in New Zealand, scoring the biggest second weekend ever for the country.
The Margot-Robbie led film took in $2,843,710 at Aotearoa cinemas from Thursday to Sunday, according to a spokesperson from Universal Pictures NZ, which is more than was brought in on the second weekend of the likes of Avatar: The Way of Water and Avengers: Endgame.
This comes after Barbie broke box office records on its opening weekend in New Zealand with a gross of $3.5 million.
In its first weekend globally, Greta Gerwig's film triumphed at the North American box office with a whopping US$155 million (NZ$250m).
Christopher Nolan's rival movie Oppenheimer also opened well, taking in over US$80.5 million.
The acclaimed Cillian Murphy-led biopic continued to dominate at the New Zealand box office on its second weekend, netting $1.2 million during the four-day period ending July 30, a spokesperson for Universal Pictures NZ said.
In its opening weekend, Oppenheimer scored around $1.4million at the New Zealand box office.
That means Barbie has now scored $6.3 million at the NZ box office alone, more than double of what Oppenheimer achieved with $2.6 million.
