The Weeknd is moving the date of his Auckland concert in December due to "phenomenal demand" for tickets for shows in Australia.

On Monday morning, Ticketmaster sent out an email to fans who have already bought tickets for the Thursday, December 7 show at Auckland's Eden Park to say the date was being rescheduled.

"Due to the phenomenal demand for tickets and accommodate as many fans as possible, The Weeknd will be adding a fourth show in Melbourne. The addition of this show has resulted in the need for the December 7 Auckland show to be rescheduled," the email said.

The Auckland show has now been moved to Saturday, December 9.

Ticketmaster said all tickets were valid for the rescheduled date, but if people could no longer attend, refunds would be given.

Tickets for the concerts in Auckland went on sale on August 25. In the days prior to the Thursday, December 7 show going on sale, a second Auckland date was added due to pre-sales being some of the busiest Ticketmaster had ever seen, the company said.

The 'After Hours: Till Dawn' shows in New Zealand will follow on from concerts in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
