The Academy Award nominations for 2024 have been released and Oppenheimer leads the way with 13 nods, including Best Picture, Best Director for Christopher Nolan and Best Actor for Cillian Murphy.
The film has already received awards during the 2024 season, taking out wins at the Golden Globes, the Emmys and the Critics Choice Awards.
Poor Things, the Emma Stone-led story of a woman discovering her sexuality, also got 11 nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.
Director Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon got 10 nods, including one for Lily Gladstone in the Best Actress in a Leading Role category. However, its main star Leonardo di Caprio was not nominated.
Surprisingly, while Barbie received eight nominations, including a Best Picture nod, its director Greta Gerwig and leading lady Margot Robbie were not nominated, shocking many in the industry. Ryan Gosling was nominated as a Best Supporting actor for his role as Ken, and his song 'I'm Just Ken' was also nominated.
For the first time in Oscar history, three of the best picture nominees were directed by women: Past Lives (directed by Celine Song), Barbie (Greta Gerwig) and Anatomy of a Fall (Justine Triet).
The 96th Academy Awards will take place on Monday, March 11 (NZT).
