A friend of Irish singer Sinead O'Connor says he believes she died from a broken heart after the death of her 17-year-old son Shane in January 2022.
No official cause of death has ever been cited for O'Connor, who died in July 2023 aged 56 in her London home.
While a coroner's report confirmed at the time an autopsy would take place, the full details are yet to be revealed.
However, friend and music producer David Holmes has made the 'broken heart' claim about O'Connor in a new documentary.
"We ended up backstage. I just stopped and introduced myself. At that moment wasn't a good time for Sinead everybody knows she had mental health issues," Holmes told the RTE documentary.
"Even though Sinead was this incredibly resilient survivor, I totally believe that people can die of a broken heart."
Shane died days after going missing in January 2022.
At the time of his death, the singer shared a statement, writing on Twitter: "My beautiful son, Nevi'im Nesta Ali Shane O'Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God. May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace."
Holmes spent five years working with O'Connor on her planned 11th studio album, No Veteran Dies Alone, which remains unfinished and unreleased.
