AM host Lloyd Burr was sensationally kicked off live TV on Friday just before an interview about Star Wars Day was due to begin.
In a segment dedicated to Stardome's celebration of International Star Wars day (aka May The Fourth) in Auckland, AM host Melissa Chan-Green told viewers: "This is probably a bad time to admit both Lloyd and I haven't watched any Star Wars."
Seconds later, Burr conceded: "I've not watched Star Wars all my life."
Members of a LEGO fan group All Blocks and Stardome's experience manager Ben Bradford watched in horror as the interview was then gatecrashed by Newshub's Entertainment Editor Kate Rodger, who's a mega Star Wars fan.
"I have known you almost my whole life and you've taken this long to tell me," Rodger said to Chan-Green in mock horror.
But in a shocking moment, she threw Burr off the couch, telling him: "Bye Lloyd I think you're better off far, far away."
Auckland's Stardome is running its annual Star Wars celebration on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5. Events will include planetarium shows, spot prizes for the best Star Wars costumes, and displays from both the Lego Users Group and 501st Legion (stormtroopers).
There will also be a Star Wars Lego exhibit running all day from 1pm.
